Why we Care

"My oldest daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, finally at the age of 17!  We started having learning issues with her in 1st grade, with reading.  I’ll never forget her 3rd grade teacher, during parent-teacher conferences, telling me “Your daughter is just a kid who doesn’t care”.  I was seeing fire!   We tried every strategy we could to get her through school.  Back then, diagnosing girls with ADHD/ADD was tough, as they displayed different behaviors etc, than a typical boy with ADHD.  While we were relieved to finally get a diagnosis in her senior year of high school, we had lost so many valuable years of foundational learning, study skills, time management etc.   If we had access to the tools our therapists teach our kiddos to use, we could have helped my daughter to be more confident and independent at a much earlier age.

I could go on and on, ultimately, I understand the daily struggles and more importantly, I’ve seen the impact that being different, learning differently, communicating differently, has on children.  I want to be able to participate in a solution to the problem.
